Radio Permit and other communications equipment
Radio Permit and other communications equipment
Radio permit
Submit in Part 3 (8 weeks prior to the expedition start date)
Carrying a PLB or other radio equipment in Greenland requires a radio permit.
To obtain a permit, the radio permit application form must be completed and submitted to the Radio Administration, which is the responsible authority.
The permit is issued by the Telecommunications Authority of Greenland (Aqutsisut).
Information and application guidelines are available at: https://www.aqutsisut.gl/en
List of required communication equipment
Submit in Part 3 (8 weeks prior to the expedition start date)
All expeditions must, as a minimum, carry the following communication equipment:
• Personal Locator Beacon (PLB)
• Maritime VHF (high frequency radio)
• Satellite telephone
A detailed list of the communication equipment must be submitted in Part 3 and must include type, quantity, purpose, and a description of how and where the equipment will be stored and maintained during the expedition.
If the expedition participants will be divided into multiple teams at any point, each team must be equipped with its own PLB, maritime VHF, and satellite phone.
Submission of PLB codes, satellite phone numbers, and VHF/MMSI information (Part 4)
Submit no later than 7 working days before the expedition start date
PLB ID codes, satellite phone numbers, VHF call signs, and where applicable, MMSI numbers, vessel call signs, Garmin InReach links, or identifiers for other licensed radio systems must be submitted in Part 4 no later than 7 working days before the expedition start date.
This ensures that Greenlandic authorities can contact the expedition by any available means if changes or safety-relevant information arise.
