Access to Research / Military Stations (incl. Ella Island)
Access to Research / Military Stations (incl. Ella Island)
Important restrictions
Station Grønnedal: No access under any circumstances (A, B, C or D).
Pituffik Space Base: Only accessible for research projects and requires prior permission from the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (see www.um.dk).
If the expedition requires access to any research or military stations, it is mandatory to apply for permission and inform the relevant station well in advance. The application must state the purpose of access and any expected logistical needs.
In Part 3 of the expedition application, you must submit documentation showing that:
access has been granted, or
you are in contact with the relevant station(s) and the access permit process is ongoing.
General rules for A, B, C and D applicants
A-, C- and D-applicants may apply for access to military stations (e.g. Mestersvig, Station Nord, Daneborg and Ella Island).
B-applicants (cruises) may apply only for access to the civilian part of Ella Island. They cannot request access to military stations.
All access requests must be submitted through www.isaaffik.org, unless otherwise specified below.
Applicants who intend to land on or use military stations should expect a need for logistical coordination (e.g. landing, refuelling, lodging) with the Joint Arctic Command.
It is not permitted to leave any equipment or materials at stations unless explicit permission has been granted.
