Scientific expeditions (C)

A scientific expedition is an expedition made by scientists whose activities are not covered by a Research Station permit.

Research / scientific purposes and activities

  • Research / scientific expeditions must be affiliated with a responsible institution.
  • A research / scientific institution endorsement must be submitted as part of the expedition permit application.
  • The holder of the expedition permit must be (a representative of) the research institution.
  • A scientific expedition or research station permit can only be used for research / scientific purposes and activities. If other types of activities are conducted by other members of the expedition, they will need to apply for their own expedition permit, covering their activities (e.g. tourist purposes such as cruise, adventure, etc.)
  • An overall expedition permit for research stations only covers operation of the station and applies to the station area (immediate vicinity of the station), the individual persons specified in the permit, and the research activities taking place within the station area. Some activities may be located so far from the station that they must have their own expedition permit, i.e. a Scientific expedition permit (C).
